This task is designed to encourage note-taking during our study of 1984 and Gattaca. It is a really good idea to keep this up to date as we continue work on these texts in class.

Week 1- What is dystopia?

Task 1: What is Dystopia?
Step 1:
In pairs, you have 5 mins to brainstorm as many traits of a dystopia as possible.
Step 2:
In pairs, design and draw this world using a map which you can annotate and/or a set of 10 rules that the society lives by.
Step 3:
Pair up, so now in a group of 4, compare and contrast using a table to document what your dystopian worlds have in common, and what is different.
Step 4:
As an individual, think about what was discussed and answer this question:
Entry: Describe how dystopian worlds control people.
Expected: Consider how the traits of a dystopian world impact what it means to be human and how to control people.

Roles and Responsibilities as described by the Party 4. Description of building 5. True roles and responsibilities within Oceania 6. HOW this controls society |

Step 1: Read the different interpretations and possible meanings of the Party's slogans on this website
Step 2: Take notes in your workbook. (What do you agree with? Disagree with? Why? What evidence do you have to support that?)
